Global Iranians Association (GIA) is a worldwide, non-partisan, group of 100+ volunteers of the Iranian diaspora. We come from diverse backgrounds and professions, including academia, business, media, law, technology, and human rights. We first came together in October 2022, united in our awe of the brave Iranian protestors and love of our country, and formally organized a month later with the shared mission of helping Iranians achieve a free, equal, and democratic Iran.
What is happening in Iran?
On September 13. 2022, Mahsa Zhina Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian woman, was brutally beaten to death by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s (IRI) “morality police” for improperly wearing her hijab. Her tragic death sparked the largest civil rights movement in Iran since 1979, evolving into a full-blown Revolution. While initially a female-led movement to end gender apartheid, today Iranians of all ages, genders, ethnicities and religions across 31 provinces, 160 cities, and 143 major universities continue to unite to demand a democratic and secular government, equality and freedom for all.
In response to the growing peaceful protests, the IRI has escalated its violent crackdown to the resistance, resulting in 485+ deaths, 18,000+ arrests, and the disappearances of hundreds of innocent Iranians. The IRI has also established sham “kangaroo” courts to justify the execution of innocent protestors without due process. Despite the brutality, the people of Iran refuse to back down until the collapse of the IRI.
The Iranian people are asking the global community to amplify their voices by clearly declaring and treating the IRI as an illegitimate government, as it doesn’t represent the will or interests of its people. The Iranians don’t want military intervention or money, just the world to be on the right side of history. Securing regime change in Iran will stabilize peace in the Middle east, reinforce the importance of human and women’s rights globally, and remove an important ally to powerful dictatorial and totalitarian regimes around the world that threaten world peace.
